BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha mourns the passing of Raila

The trustees, administration team and devotees of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, Kenya, have expressed their deepest sorrow and joined the entire nation in mourning the passing of Raila Amollo Odinga, Former Prime Minister of Kenya.

In a statement to newsrooms, the Swaminarayan Sanstha fraternity extended their condolences to the Odinga family and Raila’s friends during this time of mourning.

“Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones during this time of great loss. His lifelong dedication. leadership, and service to the people of Kenya will forever be remembered with respect and gratitude,” read part of the statement.

“The Spiritual Head of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, has offered special prayers for the departed soul of Raila Odinga and conveyed his heartfelt condolence message to the bereaved family,” it continued. 

This was after the ODM leader passed away at the age of 80 after suffering a cardiac arrest on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, in the morning in India.

Odinga collapsed during a morning walk within the premises of the Ayurvedic facility and was rushed to Devamatha Hospital, a private hospital in Koothattukulam, where he was pronounced dead, according to a spokesman for the Ayurvedic eye hospital. 

Meanwhile, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki announced that the public will have an opportunity to view the body of Raila on Friday, October 17.

Speaking on Thursday, October 16 when he briefed the nation on the burial arrangements of Raila, DP Kindiki said the public viewing will start at around 12 noon at Nyayo Stadium, shortly after the conclusion of a two-hour State Funeral service.
