Fatal plane crash in Kwale kills 12 on board

A devastating air accident in Kwale County claimed the lives of all twelve people on board a light aircraft on October 28, 2025 in the morning.

The plane crashed and erupted in flames in the Tsimba Golini area, just moments after taking off.

The single-engine aircraft, registered as 5Y-CCA, was operating a popular tourist route. It had departed from Diani at the coast and was heading for the Kichwa Tembo airstrip in the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

The tragedy occurred at approximately 0530Z (8:30 am East Africa Time).

The crash site is being secured by emergency response teams and law enforcement.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed the incident. Director General Emile Arao stated that government agencies have been deployed to the site.

“Government agencies are already on site to establish the cause of the accident and its impact.”

At this time, the exact cause of the crash has not been immediately established. Aviation accident investigators will conduct a thorough examination of the wreckage, flight data, and weather conditions.
